“Are we not like two volumes of one book?”
- Marceline Desbordes-Valmore
We’ll be getting geared up for Valentine’s Day in the library this week. Here are a couple of ideas that we wanted to share.
We found this “blind date” with a book idea originally on Pinterest. We’ve attached the descriptions we created for each of our romance books as well as the posters on display to advertise. (See the bottom of the post for the attachments)

Grab your teen’s attention with one of these blind date books. Who can resist unwrapping one of these tonight?
We pulled some of our romance titles, wrote a few lines of a brief, vague description and wrapped the books up in Valentine paper. We sprinkled some candy hearts and lace doilies for more pizazz.
We then scanned each title into Destiny creating a barcode list. We printed out the barcodes on paper and glued them on the wrapped packages. We’ve attached the advertisements we created to promote the event, as well as the descriptions of the books. Don’t forget if you have an alarm system to put a card in the back or de-activate! We wrapped our books and then realized they were going to set off our alarm!
Our thinking is that the students will check out the book, unwrap at home and bring back to the library if the book doesn’t prove interesting. We’ll keep you posted on how it goes! Update- they are flying out the door! We are working on creating more romance descriptions…..
The second idea is a craft project. We created some beautiful hearts several years ago that hang in our library windows every year. We always receive lots of compliments. Here is a link with instructions on making a felt heart. http://www.theidearoom.net/2010/01/valentines-day-craft.html

This is a great Valentine’s Day display. Hope you don’t mind-we’re using some of your ideas in our high school library & have gotten quite a reaction! Thanks so much.
Thanks Jane. That’s what we are all about- sharing! We consider any borrowing of our ideas the highest compliment… James and Christi
